Producer, director, writer, cameraman, and editor since 1969

Mark Birnbaum has produced, directed, written, filmed and edited documentaries—both independently and for Public Television and The Discovery Channel—in locations all over the world. Recognition includes the Peabody Broadcasting Award.

At WMPB, The Maryland Center for Public Broadcasting, one of PBS's most production-active stations, Birnbaum worked in a large film department, directing, shooting and editing films about public affairs, culture and the arts, Maryland history and nature.

As a filmmaker at KERA-TV, the Public Broadcasting affiliate in Dallas, Birnbaum directed, filmed and edited stories for a nightly public affairs program, Newsroom. He produced, filmed, and edited numerous documentary specials, including A Thirst In The Garden, winner of the Peabody Broadcasting Award.
